- Jehovah prophesied that Babylon would be desolate, that is that no one would live in the city. After Peter’s time the city was gradually abandoned never to be lived in again.
- The city was built by Nimrod, originally called Babel, and is where many major false teachings have originated from.
- The Hebrew name of the city, Babel, means “confusion,” while the Sumerian and Akkadian names for it mean “Gate of God.”
- Peter preached to the Jewish community that remained in Babylon during the first century.
