- The empire of the Assyria was the second empire to affect God’s people. It was a cruel and powerful nation.
- They successfully invaded part of the territory of Israel and Judah, dealing a crushing blow to the ten tribe northern kingdom when it destroyed the city of Samaria.
- The replaced Egypt as the dominant power, trying to control God’s people, though Jehovah delivered them when he destroyed Sennacherib’s army. They remained dominant in the area until Babylon replaced them as world power.

Fun Facts
- The Assyrians were known as a very cruel people, doing terrible things to their captives, and depicting it on their temple and palace walls.
- Sennacherib recorded his attack on Judah and Jerusalem, boasting about it, though he exaggerated the tribute Hezekiah paid. Interestingly they do not mention their defeat, but they also don’t claim to have defeated Judah.
- Jehovah had prophecies recorded about the defeat of the capital, Nineveh, which was eventually destroyed by the Babylonians.
