- In the time of Israel, Jehovah provided the Law Covenant through Moses. This Law gave details that would affect the health and welfare of his people. Many of the laws it contains were ahead of its day.
- There were laws on what animals could and couldn’t be eaten, how to keep clean, and even what to do with dead bodies and human waste.

- Quarantining, that is to separate someone sick from those who aren’t, was something that Jehovah required in the Law for certain illnesses, such as leprosy.
- Israelites weren’t allowed to eat animals that were already dead, as that can cause disease.
- Jehovah required the Israelites to clean and wash themselves, their clothes and their homes regularly.
- Some animals were also forbidden from being eaten because of how they could cause illness as they were less clean than other animals.
