The Lofoten Islands are a group of beautiful islands in the northern part of Norway that are formed by an interesting geological process, creating a long ridge of high mountains and dramatic views.
The exact meaning of the name of the islands is not known.
The islands have a realtively high temeprature for their location so far north, partly due to the Norwegian Sea that surrounds them.
Horsts are raised sections of land that are caused by fractures on each side pushing up the land compared to the land along the edges which drop lower.
Many animals and birds live in the islands, including the Sea Eagles and Puffins.
