  • The city of Bethel was a Caananite city before the time of Abraham. It was mentioned a number of times in the Bible, including a location of some key events, such as where Abraham received the covenant from Jehovah. Later it became the city of the ten tribe kingdom of Israel, and a golden calf was located there for false worship. It was later destroyed by the Roman emperor Vespasian.
