The prophecy of Daniel chapter 2, of the immense image of gold, silver, copper, iron and clay all represented different world powers that have affected God’s people since Daniel’s day until our time. These empires have had an effect on true worship.
Understanding how this images relates to various world powers gives us confidence in the accuracy of the Bible, as well as confidence in the events that happen at the end of the prophecy.
The head of gold represents the empire of Babylon, starting with King Nebuchadnezzar.
The chest and arms of silver represent Medo-Persia that took control of the Babylonian empire.
The abdomen and thighs of copper represent Greece.
The legs of iron represent the strong empire of Rome.
The feet or iron and clay represent Britain and America.
