- Hawks are a group of raptors, or birds of prey, that are known for fast, horizontal hunting techniques. In North America, hawks refers to several groups of raptors, but “true hawks” are limited to a scientific family Accipitrinae. At times other birds of prey have the word ‘hawk’ in their name. They are capable, intelligent and fast birds, showing great skill and ability in the way they pursue their prey.

- Hawks have greater vision than humans, partly because they have 5 times more cells to receive light in their eyes, and extra nerves and other features of the eye compared to humans.
- Hawks are sometimes used in falconry, a sport in which trained birds of prey are flown at small game for sport.
- They often migrate during autumn/fall to spring.
- They are viewed as some of the most intelligent birds.
