Ancient Corinth, strategically located on the Isthmus of Corinth connecting the Peloponnese to mainland Greece, was a powerful and influential city-state. Its prime location made it a vital center for trade and commerce, linking the Aegean and Ionian Seas. This strategic advantage, coupled with its flourishing arts and culture, propelled Corinth to prominence in ancient Greece. The city’s wealth and power, however, also made it a frequent target for conquest and a significant player in the political and military struggles of the Greek world.
Corinth was located on a narrow strip of land that connected two parts of Greece, making it an important trading center.
The Isthmian Games, a major sporting event in ancient Greece, were held at Corinth.
Corinthian pottery was highly prized throughout the ancient world.
You can still visit the ruins of ancient Corinth today, and see the remains of temples, theaters, and other important buildings.
