Outer Cavea of the Theatre

Learning Point

  • The upper cavea, or seating section, was the steepest seating in the theatre. It had a number of staircases that allowed access to the different levels, as well as entrances (paradoses) from the inside of the theatre to a slightly wider central section of the diazoma, or walkway, that existed at the foot of the cavea.
