Key Information

Orchestra and Entrances

Learning Point

  • The orchestra was the semicircle area in front of the stage building. Access points to the stage and to the lower cavea were part of the walkway around it as well as side entrances called the Aditus Maximus. The entrances (vomitoria) in the theatre changed over the centuries, initially being open air areas that changed as the theatre grew in size.
