Learning Point
- King Shishak (also known as Sheshonk/Shoshenq I) was the founder of Egypt’s Libyan dynasty. He sheltered Jeroboam when he fled King Solomon. In 993 BCE, Shishak invaded Judah, capturing many cities and reaching Jerusalem. Though the city was not destroyed, Shishak looted all of its treasures. Archaeological findings at Megiddo and Karnak confirm this campaign, which was likely intended to control major trade routes and boost Egypt’s power.
