- Akhenaten was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh. Akhenaten decided to worship only one god, the Aten, who was represented as the sun disk. To show his devotion, he even changed his name to Akhenaten, which means “Servant of the Aten,” and he built a brand-new capital city called Akhetaten in the middle of the desert. Akhenaten’s family, including his famous son, King Tutankhamun, were part of this big change.

- Akhenaten was married to the beautiful Queen Nefertiti, whose famous bust is one of the most well-known pieces of ancient Egyptian art.
- He made Egyptian art change from its stiff, traditional style to a more realistic and relaxed style that showed his family life.
- His son was the boy king, Tutankhamun, who is better known as King Tut.
- Akhenaten moved the capital of Egypt and built a whole new city in the middle of the desert just for his new religion, calling it Akhetaten.
