- Ducks are found on every continent except Antarctica, but belong to different groups of birds. They are often great swimmers, and able to dip or dive into water to reach food. Generally the male ducks are more brightly coloured, but in some species the male and female are similar, in a few the female is.

Fun Facts
- There are so many variations within the different species, that it becomes complicated identifying exactly what each species is.
- Physically swans and geese are the same kind of animal, but we normally separate them because they are bigger and have longer necks.
- Only female mallard ducks truly “quack“, other species making a wide variety of sounds.
- A male duck is called a “drake“, a female a “hen” or “duck” and a young duck is a called a “duckling“.
