Key Information
Nimrod
| Type | First King after the Flood |
| Born | Around 2300 BCE |
| Known For | Construction of cities, forming a kingdom or empire, standing against Jehovah God |
Learning Point
- Nimrod was the great-grandson of Noah, and took the lead in rebelling against pure worship and Jehovah God. He was behind construction of many early cities in Mesopotamia, including Babylon, then known as Babel. The Tower of Babel was a result of his opposition to God, though we cannot say for certain where the ruins of that tower are.

Fun Facts
- Nimrod may have died without children and possibly a violent death. No nation seems to have descended from Nimrod as was often the case with other descendants of Noah mentioned in Genesis.
- He seems to have established the first kingdom on Earth, certainly the first after the flood.
- It looks like he invaded the territory of Shem, suggesting that he was a warrior and not just a hunter of animals.
- Some feel he was viewed as a god by later nations, some people linking him to the name Marduk, whose name changed to Bel or Nebo in later years.
