Fun Facts
- Lovebirds are some of the smallest types of parrots in the world, usually only about the size of a grown-up’s hand (around 5 to 7 inches long).
- Almost all types of lovebirds come from the continent of Africa and the nearby island of Madagascar.
- They are called “lovebirds” because they pick one partner and usually stay with them forever (monogamy). They like to sit close and preen each other.
- In the wild, some female lovebirds have a funny trick: they tear up strips of nesting material and tuck the strips into their tail feathers to carry them back to the nest!
- Lovebirds are very clever and need lots of toys and playtime, like swings and things they can chew, to keep their brains busy.
