Originally a <strong>Norman stronghold<\/strong>, it transformed into a <strong>royal residence<\/strong> and even hosted a legendary <strong>King Arthur-inspired event in the 13th century<\/strong>. In the <strong>16th century<\/strong>, the castle entered its most glamorous phase when <strong>Robert Dudley renovated<\/strong> it during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. He converted it into a <strong>lavish palace<\/strong>, complete with <strong>England&#8217;s widest roofed hall<\/strong> at the time.
