It has become an <strong>important route for commercial shipping<\/strong>. It marks the location of what was <strong>once a great inland sea<\/strong>, the <strong>Champlain Sea<\/strong>, which was <strong>drained <\/strong>when the <strong>land rose <\/strong>a little in
