When the <strong>volcano blew its top in 1912<\/strong>, it left behind a <strong>huge area covered in ash<\/strong>, and <strong>hot gases escaped from cracks<\/strong> in the ground, looking like <strong>thousands of tiny smoke clouds<\/strong>.
