South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands are two groups of islands located in the South Atlantic Ocean. South Georgia Island is known for its abundant wildlife, particularly penguins, while the South Sandwich Islands are a volcanic archipelago with a harsh climate. Both groups of islands are remote and sparsely populated, but they offer stunning natural beauty and opportunities for scientific research.

The South Sandwich Islands are one of the coldest places on Earth. The average temperature is below freezing all year round.
They are all volcanic, which means they were formed by volcanoes.
South Georgia Island is one of the most important places in the world for penguins. Millions of penguins live there every year.
Many years ago, people used to hunt whales near South Georgia Island. This caused a big problem for the whales and the island’s wildlife.
