Learning Point
- As one of the biggest titanosaurs, Dreadnoughtus was a massive sauropod, weighed more than 50 tonnes, and with a length that was longer than many other dinosaurs. It was discovered with one of the most complete skeletons yet found of a sauropod titanosaur, helping paleontologists understand more accurately the design and life of this dinosaur.

Fun Facts
- Kenneth Lacovara, who discovered the species, chose the name Dreadnoughtus, which means “fears nothing“, stating “I think it’s time the herbivores get their due for being the toughest creatures in an environment.”
- It didn’t have longer front legs than its rear legs like the Brachiosaurus, suggesting it may have moved more horizontally than vertically.
- Many of the big titanosaurs stand with their legs further apart to enable them to support their immense weight.
- The holotype, the first fossil found, was not fully grown when it died, suggesting they may have grown even larger.
