Key Information

Chocolate

The Factory Nestlé Factory, York

Learning Point

  • Chocolate has been produced in factories for more than a hundred years. In the early years, lots of people made then chocolate by hand, but now machines are used for many stages. Different chocolate bars require different receipes, meaning the factories need to adjust the ingredients depending on what they’re making.

Project

  • Design your own chocolate bar, including what the wrapper would look like.

  • 28 tonnes of chocolate makes 2 million KitKats.
  • Machines can identify many faults in the production, but humans are generally better at seeing the problems.
