Learning Point

  • Australovenator was a seemingly agile theropod found in Australia. The location of the discovery was in among the remains of a sauropod, and currently it is the only known fossil of the animal. We don’t have a complete skeleton yet, but we do have enough to understand its face, arms and legs, all which points to it being a strong and probably quick dinosaur.

Project

  • Draw a picture of an Australovenator in its habitat.

Confirmed Australia

Fun Facts

  • The name Australovenator comes from Greek meaning “southern hunter“.
  • They are still excavating the site where the original fossil was found, finding more parts of the skeleton as they do.
  • It is thought to have been a quick dinosaur.
  • It has also been suggested that it had very agile arms and hands, extending more than most other theropods.
