Learning Point

  • Jesus ministry covered the whole of the land of Israel, but the last week of his life was spent mainly in and around Jerusalem. He visited the temple several of those days, and some of his most famous and important teachings were provided in those last days. We have extensive details of Nisan 8 to Nisan 16, which includes his entry to Jerusalem, the Lord’s Evening Meal, his betrayal, trial and execution, as well as his resurrection.
  • day during Bible times ran from the sunset of one day until the sunset of the next. For example, in 2022, Nisan 14 starts on Friday, 15 April at sunset, and finishes on Saturday, 16 April at sunset.

Fun Facts

  • The Memorial Bible reading provided each year details the accounts that relate to Jesus travels, where he went and what he did.
  • Appendix B-12 in the New World Translation show more details of the places he visited.
  • The year Jesus died, 33 CE, the Passover fell on the day before the normal weekly sabbath. John calls it a “great sabbath” as both the Passover and the normal sabbath were viewed as sabbath days, so the Jews had two days of the sabbath together that week.
  • Jesus spent most of the last week of his life on earth in and around Judea and Jerusalem.
