- Chimpanzees are not monkeys and belong to the 'Great Apes' which includes bonobos, gorillas and orangutans.
- Though similar to bonobos, they are not the same. They are separated by the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Chimpanzees live to the north of the river and bonobos to the south.

- The largest groups are found in Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon.
- In the wild, chimpanzees live in 'communities' made up of between 15 and 80 members with a dominant male called the alpha male.
- Chimpanzees love to groom each other by removing dirt and bugs from the other chimpanzees in the troop.
- Some groups of Chimpanzees are known to eat over 200 kinds of food, including fruit, leaves, flowers, seeds, bird eggs, insects and other monkeys and pigs!
