- The word "Yosemite", means "killer" in Miwok and is the name that the Miwok gave to the Ahwahneechee People.
- Though up to 5 million people may visit year to year, most spend their time in the Yosemite Valley area of the park.
- Yosemite was not the first national park, but being declared as federally preserved land in 1864 pushed forward the idea of national parks, and Yellowstone become one in 1890.
