  • Torres del Paine is a national park established in Chile in 1959 that covers a range of mountains, within which are glaciers, valleys and monumental peaks and cliffs.

  • Lady Florence Dixie, in 1880, described the three towers in the park as Cleopatra's Needles, though they are now called the Towers of Paine.
  • There are many lakes through the park. Glaciers around the park contribute to the water that fills these lakes.
  • There are five glaciers within the park boundaries, with the largest being called Glacier Grey. It has split into two arms because of the terrain is passes over.
  • Many animals and birds live in the park, including the Andean Condor and the Crested Caracara.
