- Torres del Paine is a national park established in Chile in 1959 that covers a range of mountains, within which are glaciers, valleys and monumental peaks and cliffs.
- The park experiences fires frequently, and although many are caused by man, over history it is clear that it is part of the ecosystem.

- Lady Florence Dixie, in 1880, described the three towers in the park as Cleopatra's Needles, though they are now called the Towers of Paine.
- There are many lakes through the park. Glaciers around the park contribute to the water that fills these lakes.
- There are five glaciers within the park boundaries, with the largest being called Glacier Grey. It has split into two arms because of the terrain is passes over.
- Many animals and birds live in the park, including the Andean Condor and the Crested Caracara.
