- The Pitons, two volcanic plugs or spires, are located in Saint Lucia and are a World Heritage Site. They are left over remains of volcanoes that once existed in their locations, and today stand as lone mountains in the sea.

- Volcanic plugs are the left over remains of volcanoes, the rock that formed as the lava cooled in the vents of the volcanoes, which are then eroded by the sea, leaving the plugs exposed to the air.
- The two peaks are called Gros Piton (Big Piton) and Petit Piton (Small Piton).
- Gros Piton can be climbed without ropes or mountaineering experience. One can hike to the summit and come back down to sea level within several hours.
- The World Heritage Park they are part of contains many coral reefs, covering 60% of the park area, and is home to many different animals and corals.
